Pozzani have now launched a range of reverse osmosis units designed specifically for aquarium enthusiasts. This unit is capable of producing about 100 litres per day under optimal conditions.
Many aquarium owners know that the contaminents frequently found in water can harm their fish, and potentially kill some of the less-robust species. All tap water contains chlorine, but also nitrates (derived from pesticides, etc), heavy metals (iron, lead and arsenic), organic matter, possibly fluoride, and many other contaminents.
Reverse Osmosis produces virtually pure water with over 95% of all contaminents removed. This water can be blended with over the counter aquarium products to adjust its characteristics to your specific requirements, whether this be a particular pH, hardness level or alkalinity.
It works by first filtering the water through a general purpose filter. This removes most of the heavy metals, chlorine and sediment. The water is then passed through a very fine filtration media called a membrane, which allows water molecules through, but not those of other chemicals or contaminents. This type of filtration is dependent on pressure to work, and it is recommended that you have a minimum of 45psi (approx. 3bar).
Water produced through RO is not usually of a high flow rate, but Pozzani manufacture various sized systems to suit different size aquariums. What you require should be based on your usual regular water changes (i.e. if you change 100 litres a week, choose a system size that can produce this much water in a reasonable amount of time - a day or half a day for example).
If you regularly change all of the tank's water, then choose a unit size that can refill the tank in the shortest amount of time, to minimise the disruption to your fish.
Our reverse osmosis systems are manufactured from the highest quality components to the same standard as our drinking water RO systems. We even offer an upgrade kit that allows you to use your RO system for drinking water and for aquarium filling.
Features:
- Compact design Failsafe flow restrictor
- Auto shut-off/on full tank
- 2 multi-stage cartridges
- State-of-the-art TFC membranes
- Simple installation and easy to use
- Guaranteed for 1 year
Supplied without a fitting kit - if you are replacing an existing RO you should be able to use your existing feed/drain hoses. However, if this is a new installation kit we strongly recommend choosing a kit since it makes the necessary connections to the cold supply and drain which will be required.
