The IX version of the big blue carbon cartridge is essentially an advanced blend of carbon and ion exchange media designed to remove chlorine, heavy metals and dissolved organics.

Unlike the BC (broad spectrum version) this cartridge features a 90% plus removal rate for such contaminents, however, it will also, due to the ion exchange media, cause the PH and alkalinity to drop somewhat, which for certain processes may not be desirable (drinking etc is fine with the product water, but something dependent on alkalinity - like home brewing - may well not be).
