At Pozzani we always listen to customer feedback, and through the last couple of years the demand for a recyclable water filter cartridge has become clearly evident. Water filters are made from virgin plastic, typically because it has better strength and customers prefer to know that for a product which is 'food grade' that its origins are well known and documented.

However, there are thousands of uses for recycled plastic for less demanding applications, and with the advent of local recycling systems (three bin policies and what not) through most of the UK, the most sensible option for a water filter seemed to be to develop a product which can be easily separated so that the plastics could be placed into your recycling bin.

The RIX250 is unique because it is a glue-less cartridge which is held together through intelligent moulding and pressure. It is a much larger cartridge than the existing IX250 ceramic filter (it reaches from the top to the bottom of the housing), and we believe as well as offering the benefits of being fully recyclable it will also offer greatly enhanced filtration, particularly for those using higher volumes of water. In addition, this cartridge can also be used with a higher throughput, so whilst the ceramics had a maximum flow rate of 1.5 litres per minute, this cartridge may be used up to 2.5 litres per minute.

When it is time to change this cartridge you simply remove it from the filter housing, and over your kitchen sink pull the three sections apart. In the bottom section there is some granular carbon which can be placed in your waste bin or sprinkled over the garden. In the top section there will be a carbon block, which should be placed into your regular food-waste bin. The remaining plastics can then be washed, flushed and placed in your recyclable bin.

Local recycling reduces transportation costs, emissions and the carbon footprint of returning to the manufacturer. We believe the significant investment in this cartridge (a first in the water filter industry and a completely UK designed and built product) will be the forerunner in helping other water filter manufacturer improve their green credentials.
